Registration with Tax Authorities

From the 1st January 2018 United Arab Emirates (UAE) has implemented Value Added Tax (VAT). Under the VAT law businesses and individuals have taxable turnover exceeding AED 375,000 during the previous twelve months have to be mandatorily registered with the Federal Tax Authority. However, the law also provides for Voluntary registration for businesses with total taxable turnover during the previous twelve-months exceeding AED 187,500.

The GCC member states have signed Unified Framework Agreement for the implementation of VAT and Excise taxes. Member states will also implement their own domestic legislation that will govern the introduction of these taxes.

In line with this unified framework, UAE has implemented VAT through the Federal Decree Law No (8) of 2017 on Value Added Tax (VAT) and Executive Regulations to the Federal Decree Law No.(8).

VAT registration in UAE is an online process that the applicant has to complete on the website of the Federal Tax Authority (FTA). Businesses are required to set up an online account on the site and fill up the VAT registration form.
